Parish Council Grounds Person (Self Employed Contractor)

Scotter Parish Council is seeking applications from self employed contractors to undertake the role of Village Grounds Person.
The contract will initially be awarded for one year, with the option to extend for a further two years, subject to satisfactory performance and agreement by both parties.
Applications must be submitted in writing to the Clerk no later than 18 September 2026. The successful applicant will be required to commence duties on 9 November 2026.

Hours of Work
The role will typically require 15 hours per week, although this may reduce to a minimum of 5 hours per week during the winter months.
Working hours are flexible and can be arranged to suit operational requirements and the contractor's availability.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Grounds Person will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
•    Empty litter bins in all parish parks twice weekly.
•    Undertake general maintenance of park grounds and equipment.
•    Carry out weekly park inspections and submit digital inspection records.
•    Inspect and maintain the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) weekly, including litter collection and removal of any broken glass.
•    Undertake weekly inspections and litter picking along the river banks.
•    Carry out grass cutting at Scotterthorpe Allotments as required.
•    Plant and maintain approximately 22 village flower boxes.
•    Undertake weekly inspections and litter picking at Parsons Field.
•    Report any defects, hazards or maintenance issues immediately to the Clerk.
•    Carry out routine maintenance of parish benches and notice boards.
•    Undertake gardening and grounds maintenance activities as required.
In addition to the duties listed above, other maintenance tasks may be required within the allocated hours. Larger projects may be commissioned separately and will be subject to prior agreement with the Clerk and payment at the agreed hourly rate.

Personal Specification
Essential Requirements
The successful applicant must:
•    Be self employed and hold appropriate public liability insurance.
•    Hold a full, valid driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
•    Have proven experience in grounds maintenance and general maintenance work.
•    Be able to fulfil the required weekly hours.
•    Provide their own tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
•    Be able to work independently, prioritise workloads and manage tasks efficiently.
•    Demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to interact with members of the public in a polite, professional and friendly manner.
•    Be reliable, organised and capable of working with minimal supervision.
