Roll Of Honour - March 1915
In March 1915 the 'Lincolnshire Chronicle' published lists of all the serving men of their area. For Scotter there were just seven names:-

Born about 16th May 1896 in Scotton
Son of John (a brick maker from Misterton) and Sarah (of Hemingfield near Barnsley)
Became a brick maker
Enlisted 29th December 1914 at Gainsborough claiming to be 21 years old
Described as just under 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing 137 pounds
Wwhilst training in 1915 suffered a bullet wound to the knee
Treated at Aylesbury and Tring
Disembarked in France on 10th September 1915
Captured by the Germans just 2 weeks later
Hheld at Gefangenenlager, Munster as Prisoner 142895
Repatriated to England 12th January 1919
On demobilisation posted to Class Z Reserve - a civilian obliged to return to the Army if called upon
Married Annie Blanchard in 1923
Remembered on Scotton War Memorial in St. Genewy’s church

Son of George Walter (a grocer from Owmby) and Emma (nee Marris of Scotter)
Family lived on High Street then West Street
1st Class Air Mechanic in the Royal Flying Corps
Disembarked in France on 10th October 1915

On 15th May 1917 the Secretary of State for War published in the ‘London Gazette‘:-
‘General Headquarters 9th April, 1917.
Sir, - I have the honour to submit a list of names of those officers, ladies, non-commissioned officers, and men, serving, or who have served, under my command, whose distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty I consider deserving of special mention.
I have the honour to be Sir, Your obedient Servant, D. Haig, Field Marshal, Commander-in-Chief, The British Armies in France.’

Had a shop at 80 High Street, Barton-on-Humber where he lived
Also a partner in Cottingham Brothers Limited with a confectioners shop at 197 Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe and a pork butchers at 18 Queen Street, Market Rasen
By 1960 was living at Yuba House on Dam Road then moved to 74 Ferriby Road, Barton-on-Humber
In the 1960s the company opened more Scunthorpe shops with a bakery at 286 Ashby High Street and confectioners at 60 Old Brumby Street and on Oswald Road
Died in 1971 aged 79 in the Caistor registration district
